Scouts, BSA (Formerly Boy Scouts)

Scouting is an outdoor program for boys and, beginning February 1st 2019, girls designed to develop character, citizenship, and fitness. With the Scout Oath and Law as a guide, Scouting helps a child develop into a well-rounded young adult. Through the advancement program, a Scout can progress in rank though achievements, gaining additional knowledge and responsibilities while working towards Scouting's highest level of achievement, becoming an Eagle Scout. Earning Merit Badges provides opportunities for Scouts to be introduced to a lifelong hobby or a rewarding career.

In Scouting, youth take responsibility for the activities of the troop. By planning and organizing activities, they develop teamwork and learn to lead as well as follow. Through the support of parents and religious and neighborhood organizations, Scouts develop an awareness and appreciation of their role in their community.

Scouting Programs

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America--incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916--is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.

Scouting is a game with a purpose, directed toward helping youth become happy, healthy, useful citizens.

Through recreation, Scouting achieves its purpose of helping young people develop physically, intellectually, socially, and spiritually. Scouting is all about building confidence and self-esteem, learning important life skills and leadership skills, team building, outdoor adventure, education, and fun! Scouts learn how to make good choices and to take responsibility for their actions so that they are prepared for their adult life as independent persons.
